Tips for Bad Days

Everyone has a bad day every once in a while. And if you are struggling with an illness (mental or physical) these days can come more often than you'd like. I know what that's like, and over the last few years I've found a few ways that have helped me get through the bad days and hopefully they help you guys, too!

Clean your room. Or at least your desk/bed/floor. It will help your head feel clean, too.

Open your curtains and windows. Fresh air and natural sunlight can do wonders in my experience. Plus, it actually offers your body health benefits that can last a lifetime!

Take a shower or have a bath. It will help you feel refreshed, relaxed, and more focused.

Put on clean clothes. And put the dirty clothes in the wash. Just like taking a shower or having a bath, putting on a fresh change of clothes can help you feel relaxed and refreshed.

Change your scenery. Leave the room you've been cooped up in. If you're able to, go for a drive. If you can't do that, just go outside. Take a walk, even if it's just around the block.

Stretch. Just take some time to stretch and relax. There are plenty of stretch and yoga videos on YouTube. Look some up and give 'em a try!

Drink a glass of water. And keep a glass near you, too. I'm sure you already know this, but it's extremely important to stay hydrated.

Get the hard/important tasks done while you have the energy. When we're having a bad day, running out of energy early in the day is very normal. And when you're struggling with an illness, you face the issue of running out of energy even sooner than others. So try to get all the important tasks or the big tasks done first so that it's out of the way.

Have some comfort food. But make sure it's a healthy snack. I know that's easier said than done, but it's important to snack on some fruit or veggies. If you don't like them plain, try whipping up a smoothie!

Set some goals. It doesn't matter how small they are - brush your hair, take a walk, get a shower. Being able to cross off a small task or two will make you feel like you've accomplished something.

Remember - it's okay to have bad days! They don't mean you've lost everything or have failed, and it doesn't mean that you're moving backward in whatever progress you've made. And it certainly doesn't mean that you are a bad or worthless person. Don't give up!
